Day 3: Unpredictable Weather

I think weather is an extremely humbling force. For as smart as we are, we are terrible at predicting it. It constantly shows us how unprepared we are and it will leave us awestruck time and time again.

My actions today were very much a result of unpredictable weather, though not in it's extreme form. A friend of mine, who's house is no longer with us, has a very burnt and very steep driveway on her property. She has expressed concern about this driveway to me but I had not understood until I saw it yesterday why she was so concerned. I had told her I would bring straw and help spread some for the past few days but I had not delivered. By the time I got there yesterday it was already 5 p.m. and I did not have any straw with me. I decided it was important that I got it done in the morning and followed through before the rain.

I woke up this morning around 5 a.m. in Angels Camp to the sound of rain and I instantly felt guilt. I thought I missed my chance to help. I decided to go find straw anyway and by the time I had the rain was already gone. It was turning into a lovely day. I headed over to the property with a few others and we were able to do what we set out to do. Does her property and driveway still need a ton of work? ... yes but every little bit counts. I was especially happy we did it when the rain returned a few hours later.

Another thing people are not good at predicting is other people's behavior. I believe this has been one of the reasons I have been afraid to expose myself to the public. I do not like to put myself out there. It is uncharted waters and it is scary. Luckily, human behavior can be surprisingly positive.

One pleasant surprise was stopping by The Hive this afternoon to find an impromptu meeting going on. I got to meet more motivated and concerned individuals. This was very relieving to me and I am so happy to continue to meet more people who want to make a difference. You don't know they are there until you reach out but when you take a risk for something you believe in I think people start to notice.
